iPhone won't stay connected to home WiFi

I've been looking at problems people have had with their i5S not staying connected to their WiFi service at home. I've noticed the same thing for quite some time now. However, although the Control Panel shows I'm connected but Settings>Wi-Fi says I'm not connected, when I go out to a public place that offers WiFi service that I have previously signed in to, I automatically get connected. Not only that I don't get disconnected every time my phone goes into Stand By mode - until I get back home. Ask to Join Networks is turned Off. In fact that doesn't seem to make any difference.

Hello IanY1944,

Thanks for trying our steps. Since the device says connected, but you have to manually connect, I recommend reinstalling the iOS using iTunes.

The reason we need to use iTunes for this step is to get a new copy of iOS installed to your device. Please make a backup of your data prior to doing this step. You can make a backup in iCloud or iTunes using this article: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

5. Once your data is backed up, you can reinstall the iOS using this help article: If you can‘t update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Please pay close attention when you reach step 4. Once your iOS is reinstalled, test if the issue is still occurring. Thanks again and have a great rest of your day.

Hello IanY1944,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for help with you iPhone not staying connected to your network. I have some troubleshooting for you to try.

1. I recommend power cycling your network, and then only reconnect the iPhone that you are experiencing issues with. Test and see if the issue persist when no other devices are connected on your network.

2. If you still have issues, please try the troubleshooting in this article. Despite the title, the troubleshooting steps are still valid: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t connect to a Wi-Fi network - Apple Support

If the issue is not occurring when other devices are not connected to your network, it may be beneficial to make sure your other devices are not powered on or removed from the network when you are not using it. Thanks and have a wonderful day.

Tried recycling power on my modem after turning off all devices that use WiFi in our household. Turned my iPhone on. Made no difference. Still had to connect to WiFi manually even though control panel said I was connected. Phone disconnected itself from WiFi after being on standby for a short time. Checked steps in the trouble shooting link above. No difference. Household has 2 iPads and 1 iPhone8. None of these devices have this problem.
