I can't lock screen

on my iphone 10 xs max running IOS 12.1.1 and my ipad purchased 5/2018, I can't get a lock screen to work properly. I have followed everything on the internet and nothing works. How can I get this to work?

I assume that you have an auto lock time set and that it doesn’t lock when that time is met. I suggested in your other thread to get an appointment at an Apple Store for help. I would do that so they can check your phone.

No, when I leave the phone on a desk for whatever time, then walk away and then return, the phone is NOT locked. Anyone can use the phone after I leave.
