new epson perfection V550 Photo scanner
They don't have an updated driver. what will happen with the 64 bit thing? what can I do

Mojave still supports properly written and current 32-bit driver code. The next major upgrade of macOS in Fall 2019 will not support any 32-bit applications or driver code.
Only Epson can determine if they will bother to upgrade the 32-bit V550 scanner driver to one that is currently Mojave 32-bit compatible, or eventually 64-bit compatibility. Hamrick's VueScan product will be of no use, because it is dependent on the installation of the Epson driver for scanner support.
Here is Epson's macOS 10.14 Mojave Support (Round to it) page. Currently, scanner drivers for the v550 are at least a year out of date.
