I do not believe there is any way to check the battery health of an iPad without going through Apple.
I do believe that one can check battery health on most current iPhones using the "Beta".
I read that the app "Battery Life" will show you the actual wear, but that does not appear to be the case.
This is for the latest iPad Air running the latest software.
Please correct me if I am wrong.

You are correct, but Battery Health on the current iPhone is no longer Beta.

if you have question about iPad battery, you can contact apple support and they remotely can check battery health. They did that for me with my older iPad Air 2 and determined it needs new battery.
they will call you at your convenient and do the test remotely.

So I guess the answer is there is no way for a user {without Apple} to check the battery health of a new iPad with or without an app. That is sad. Anyone else care to comment?

Thank you. I have done that previously. I am still surprised that it appears impossible to check my iPad battery on my own or with an app. That is still my question.
I just gave Ferd 11 credit for solving the issue. I had occasion to contact the Apple help line and they confirmed that to properly check my battery health I need to go through Apple. Case closed.
