Dictionary stopped bringing results for yellow highlighted words

Right clicking on a word and selecting “find word” turns this word yellow, opens the dictionary window but fails to produce any results.

Strange, because until now this feature was operating normally.

Any ideas to fix this issue?

Pass your mouse pointer over the same word as before, but do not click. Press control+command+D.

If you are using a Trackpad, in System Preferences : Trackpad, select the Point & Click tab, and √ Lookup & Data Detectors. With the pointer above the word, lightly press three fingers simultaneously on the Trackpad.

The preceding are alternative "lookup" approaches. If these do not work, then I would suggest that you review what dictionaries are selected in the Dictionary application's Preferences, and their order, which would be the order of the lookup panel results.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. Please post back on whether or not this worked. Also try the Safe Mode. Please post back on whether or not this worked.

Safe Mode - About

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

Dear Eric,

Thank you for your reply.

I understand that I should try to find the reason for this issue - which appeared unexpectedly - by searching following your instructions.

Safe mode checked but no solution.

EtreCheck could perhaps help?

Otherwise, since for me this is not a major issue, although I used it occasionally, I will leave it as it is for now.

Many thanks again,

Theodore
