Apple Music

I have downloaded music on my Apple Music and my free subscription has ended. I tried to play my downloaded music that is on my device through Apple Music and none of the music is playing. So I’m wondering why is that happening? Do I have to renew my subscription in order to play the downloaded music on my device?
