All non-iTunes music is gone on my phone...

As of yesterday, 12-15-18, all my music was on my phone. This morning I went to my Playlists and they were gone. I then went to check my music and every song that was a non purchased iTunes song was gone. I’ve read some of the Q&A’s in various forum’s and have gotten mixed answers. I’m at work, atm, so I can’t do much. It’s not a very good feeling to possibly lose 1,000’s of songs. Plus, the songs that are missing, I thought, we’re downloaded onto my phone and not just in iCloud.

Hi Joseph...thank you for the answer and possible solutions. I checked all of those things after initially losing all of the music that I hadn’t purchased from iTunes. Everything was set properly, as you described in message. I had no stoarage restrictions either, so I was at a loss in what happened. I read some other forum messages and saw similar music losses of non-purchased iTunes music, like mine, where I had burned my own CD’s into iTunes. What I did was hook my iPhone up to my laptop and reloaded my phone from a previous backup. That worked, but I would still like to know how my music disappeared when I had done nothing to the phone or app. The latest version software update was installed and I have more than enough space on my phone. This is the first issue I’ve ever had with any Apple device and I’ve been a customer for years.

Hello Carondoian,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that Apple Music content has disappeared unexpectedly from the Music app on your iPhone, however you are still able to see your music purchased from the iTunes Store. It's important you're able to listen to your music when you want, and you've come to the right place for help.

Let's start by making sure you're signed in to Settings > iTunes & App Store with the same Apple ID you use for your Apple Music subscription. After that, confirm that iCloud Music Library is enabled:

Turn on iCloud Music Library with Apple Music - Apple Support

When you use iCloud Music Library, it syncs your music across devices using iCloud. Similar to other iCloud services, signing out of your Apple ID or turning off iCloud Music Library will remove the synced content from your device. You will need to download the content for offline listening again once your playlists reappear:

Add and download music and video content from the Apple Music catalog - Apple Support

It may also be a good idea to check if you have any storage restrictions for downloaded music from Settings > Music > Optimize Storage. Turning on Optimize Storage will automatically remove downloaded music to save space on your device.

Let us know if there's any change after trying these steps.

Take care!
