I’ve just updated to the new IOS 12, which includes the MeMoji for more than just iPhone X and newer. However, I do not see the icon when I am messaging someone in the bar. Even if I press more, it doesn’t show the monkey symbol for AniMoji. Please help, as I’d like to experience the Animoji/ MeMoji.

To have Memoji/Animoji, you need an iPhone X or later models or an iPad Pro with Face ID (True depth front facing camera).
The Memojis and Animojis are for iPhone X and new iPhones that use the more advanced Tru-depth cameras.
No older iPad models have these more advanced cameras.
So, no Memojis or Animojis for ANY older iPad models.
If you want something a little similar to the Memojis ( NOT the Animoji side of things ), for use with the iPad and the Messages app, look at apps Bitmoji and Emoji Me.
