Connecting Apple Cinema HD 30" to MacBookPro

I purchased a MacBook Pro (15-inch 2018) and was told at Apple store I can use my old 30" Apple Cinema HD Display, and just needed little converted plug from Apple (which I bought). Well it does not have the connections that the Cinema HD needs... so I bought a HDMI to DVI converter, and plug everything in... on the Cineama display I get what looks like the old TV test patterns... Now I'm at a loss of what to do... anyone have this problem and know how to solve it? Thank you in

advance :)

The 30" Apple display uses Dual-Link DVI. The adapter you have is for HDMI.

There are no HDMI to dual-link DVI adapters. There are some that use dual-link DVI connectors but they are only single-link.

The Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt adapters won't work with display adapters or displays (except Thunderbolt displays).

You need a USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapter

to use with a Mini DisplayPort to dual-link DVI adapter.

Don't forget to plug in its USB cable with an adapter:

(Many USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapters don't support DVI adapters. The one I linked says it does support them.)
