Audiobook gift

I tried to give an audiobook as a gift, and got an email from iTunes (several weeks after I placed the order) telling me that it couldn't be completed. I'm guessing that I did it wrong. Can anyone tell me how to make an audiobook purchase to be sent as a gift, so that I don't do it wrong again? Thank you!
