External DVD drive stopped working after Mojave upgrade

I have a Matshita dvd drive that worked plug-n-pay on both my Mac computers prior to High Sierra. With the upgrade to HS, the only way to access cd/s/dvd's on both was with Disk Utility. However, with the upgrade to Mojave, it will not work at all - again on either computer. Does anyone have a fix for this? I also purchased a new external LG that was also Mac compatible, but it too didn't work with either computer.
