The poster did identify the display as a A1316. That is a 27 inch LED screen connected via mini displayport.

Does the display have this problem when connected to another computer?
Do you have the problem when connecting to another display via mini displayport?
When it does not start look at the screen with a flashlight. Maybe the backlight is not coming on.

you are not getting some kind of answer because you do not specify the exact Display or Mac Pro or system software in use. Need more information. and yes you do not have to power off the Display each night if things are running correctly. you would sleep the system.
