Random Charge on my Apple account

I have received an email from Apple that there was a charge to my apple account (I did not purchase the item charged). There is no charge, however, to the credit card tied to my apple account. I am afraid to change the apple id because I just did this when I saw a different random charge and had to change the credit card etc. Thoughts?

Greetings, gaffrig.

I see that you've received an email stating that there was a charge to the payment method you're using on your Apple ID. The problem is, you don't recognize the charge and the charge hasn't appeared on your credit card. I'm happy to help.

Avoid phishing emails, fake 'virus' alerts, phony support calls, and other scams -- Make sure that the email isn't a phishing tactic. This article explains what to look for.

Identify legitimate emails from the App Store or iTunes Store -- This article provides information to help you determine if the email is actually from Apple.

See your purchase history in the App Store or iTunes Store -- You can also check your purchase history. If you use Family Sharing, you can also check your purchase history and ask the others if that was their purchase.

If you think your Apple ID has been compromised -- If ever you're concerned that your Apple ID has been compromised, refer to this article for the information you need.

Take care!
