Screen flickering on Netflix

It might sound crazy but I’ve read on a reddit forum that resizing the mouse pointer to a larger size and then returning it back to normal size will fix your issue. This is a temporary fix but it’s better than having to reset the whole system again. It worked for me.

I experienced this flicker for the first time today. I've been using this 2018 MBA since November. Today when I opened up at my usual coffee shop, I started noticing the flicker occasionally. The whole display seems to "blink" flashing lighter then back. Adjusting brightness with the f-keys seemed to aggravate it. A brief google found other reports of this on 2018 MBA and maybe the MacBook Pros too. Seems you can avoid this by turning off Adjust Display Brightness and possibly by changing color profile (via macrumors and OSXdaily).

Definitely seems to be a fault here. Sounds like a hardware problem. This defect led to 30 min wasted when I should have been working.

I've had this issue ever since I bought my MacBook Pro 15. I've read countless forums with many users experiencing this issue and nothing permanently resolves it. An SMC reset works temporarily, but the issue always comes back. They all have the same recommantions from "Apple Specialists". Nothing works.

I have the same problem, and I havent even had this computer for a week. Very disappointing since I spent so much money on this laptop. Please help me fix this.

Hi, the same problem here. Unfortunately I have not found any solutions how to fix it within the Safari browser, so I use Chrome to watch Netflix and occasionally Youtube (I have experienced it also on the Youtube website) and there are no problems whatsoever. Hope the fix for the Safari will come soon.

Have you tired disabling "Adjust Display Brightness" or chaining the color profile for the display? Both of these are found in display settings.

I can't duplicate the problem using Safari+Netflix. I only experience the flicker at a coffee shop, and only sitting in a certain place. I'm pretty sure this has to do with the light sensor that controls the display brightness.

Another possible solution is to try an SMC reset, which was recommended somewhere. It makes some sense because the SMC controls screen brightness settings.

Are you saying only the Safari window flashes, or this only happens when you use Safari?

Try the mitigations I suggested and let us know if that helps.

Only flashes when I use Safari, when watching media in full screen, for example Netflix. Then if it is opened in Chrome, it does not flash at all.
