Changing bluetooth device name.

Accodring to Apple, You should be able to change the name of connected bluetooth devices on iphone. I am running ios 12.1.1. on iPhone XS.

it does not work. Settings>bluetooth>select device from list of pared devices, then touch the device name and enter a new name. You cannot tap on device name or get the keyboard up to make changes. Why?
