You must update your Apple ID to continue signing in. Continue button greyed out.
I recently purchased an MacBook. However, when trying to perform updates from the App Store, and after signing in, I was told:
"You must update your Apple ID to continue signing in".
It asked me for my date of birth and a security question. However, the "Continue" (or possibly "Next") button was greyed out. I searched several places online for an answer and even tried contacting Mac support. I did find some other people having the same problem, but no one seemed to have found a solution.
The Mac support people did not even know why the button was greyed out. One of the tech support people said that I should reinstall my OS. I questioned her about this, and then she ended up escalating my problem.
I was then transferred to a senior tech person. She was very knowledgeable, and I shared my screen with her so that she could see what I was seeing. She was as baffled as I was as to why the continue button was greyed out.
She had said that there is also an issue because it should be showing me more than one security question should be showing for me to answer. It was then that I realized that the security question was in a scrollable box. However, the scroll bar was invisible as it seems this is a default setting on the Mac. Once I realized this I was able to scroll down and see the other questions.
PROBLEM: It is a poor design choice by Apple to hide scroll bars by default. This is especially apparent when even senior tech support is confused by a scrollable list.
SOLUTION: If you see a single security question and the continue button is greyed out, try scrolling down even if no scroll bar is noticeable.
Hopefully this post helps prevent someone from going through as much aggravation as I did.
