ipad pro volume problems using usb-c adapter

I just upgraded to an 11” iPad Pro and have run in to some volume problems. I’m using wired Sony headphones with the Apple USB-C adapter and after only a few minutes, the volume starts randomly changing in both directions. This happens regardless of app; web, games, Netflix, Prime Video, etc. I have never experienced this behavior while plugging these headphones into a headphone jack on many devices. Headphones are about a year old. This was the first time using the adapter so it wasn’t like it starting fine and then went bad. Using AirPods work just fine, as expected. No other weird iPad behavior either. I haven’t tried other headphones (yet), and don’t have any other usb-c Apple products to test the adapter. I’ve reset the iPad, updated to the latest app versions, etc. Any ideas?

I had the same problem using Bose headphones with iPad 2018 and a headphone jack to usb c. Tried a non Apple cable first then an Apple cable and with both the volume was increasing to maximum. Decided to try one more Apple cable and sound now working perfectly.

In case someone comes across this question, I was able to resolve the issue. After many searches about poor quality cables, I decided to replace the one I purchased. Sure enough, the new one works just fine. Frankly, I’m a bit surprised that Apple would release a product that seems to have significant quality issues (anecdotally). Glad it’s only $9.

Update: Tried different headphones/earphones. Two of them experienced the volume issues mentioned above; other three work perfectly. Hopefully, you people will draw the right number.

Bought two USB-C to Headphone Jack adapters for iPad Pro 2018, and same issue as mentioned above. As long as you don’t change the volume, you’re good. When you raise/lower the sound, it goes to max volume/no sound at all. Frustrating. You feel cheated. Can’t buy adapters until one finally works.

I have the same problem with my Bose wired headphones with the 12.9” iPad Pro 2018. USB-C adapter to audio adapter. If you resolved the issue by swapping the adapter I will try that.
