New MacBook Air: where do I put my files?

I have a new, just out of the box, MacBook Air. I'm having to move my files over manually because the new drive won't hold everything. When I dragged my files from my external hard drive to the Mac's hard drive, it said I didn't have permission to do that. Another user here said I shouldn't use the hard drive, but instead use the Home. HOWEVER! I DON'T HAVE A HOME FOLDER EITHER!

For a new computer this is nuts!

So, Apple, where do I put my stuff?

In the Finder on the left side you should have a home icon with your user name next to it. This is your home folder :) It contains all the folders you see on the left (like documents, pictures, downloads etc), but you can also create your own folders inside it.

If it's not showing up. Then you need to open up the Finder preferences. In the tab Navigation you can select/deselect the options you wish to see.

Good luck :)
