Can't mount a new .dmg or .cdr image?

  1. Insert an Audio CD.
  2. Open Disk Utility and make a New Image for that disc. Either a .dmg or .cdr file will appear, depending on the format you choose.
  3. Now try to open that file in the Finder. I get "No mountable file systems."
  4. Now try the hdutil attach command in Terminal. Same error.

I'm on a new iMac Pro running Mojave 10.14.2. I've never had trouble opening disk images before.

What's going on, Apple?

Since it was a rhetorical question there was no need to "contribute".
