This is a workaround, but it’s not all that hard to do. It basically works the same way on an iPad.
Select the print option. When the print dialog box pops up, pinch out on the image on the dialog box so that it takes up the full screen. Then tap the share icon and select Copy to iBooks or save to any pdf app that you have on the iPad.
When you are done, just cancel the print dialog box.

I don’t think you can.
The “share” option within iOS Mail only presents a standard iOS print option for the body email - not a full share-sheet that would allow you to “Save a PDF to iBooks”. Even the “Create a PDF” option is not available within iOS Mail - for either the email body or for open attachments.
There are some workarounds, but they require installation of a third-party App - such as Readdle Printer Pro - but the workarounds aren’t elegant.
on the iphone, in mail, go into en email and select print.
when the printer options dialog box opens, you long press or pop press on the actual mail message itself until it opens you now get the option to use the share icon in the top right corner. hitting that will allow you to pdf or save as a pdf.
on the ipad pro - if you select print on a mail message, you don't have the long press or pop press option to open up the share icon.....its odd. unless i am just missing something completely obvious., which is very possible :-).
its odd that it is possible on the iphone though......
That is odd - as I see exactly the same options on both my iPhone and iPad...
The only explanation, that I can propose, is that you’re utilising a “3D-touch” function of iOS that is only available on a subset of iPhones...
Demo - you’re quite correct - I’d forgotten about this mechanism!
Don’t tell Apple - they’ll likely remove this functionality at the next update 🙂
perfect, this works! thank you so much. how simple!
Go Steelers!
You’re quite welcome and Go Steelers indeed!

I won’t say a word. 😉
For everyone’s future reference, here is useful ditty about this feature from iMore:
