I don't want Siri to suggest a contact anymore

Hi there

I turned off Siri completely.

I turned off Siri & Search for the contacts app and for the phone app.

I turned off Siri Suggestions in Search, Look Up, Lock Screen.

Despite this, when dialing a certain number, I get a line of text underneath it with a suggestion of a contact "maybe X" despite X having a completely different entry in my Contacts. It's driving me crazy. I don't want suggestions, how do i kill this without killing my phone in a lava pit?

Hi dragosf,

Thanks for the post in Apple Support Communities. I understand you're seeing an unwanted suggestion for a contact.

You mentioned you've turned off a few suggestions-related settings. The most likely setting that would cause this behavior is found under Settings > Siri & Search > Contacts > Find Contacts in Other Apps. This function suggests contacts based on other apps on your device, and turning that off may clear this up.

I hope this helps!

Take care.

Hi i_rina

Indeed, the problem is with the one contact I edited while being abroad.

I tried deleting the contact and recreate it under another name just to see what happens, Siri/iPhone kept suggesting the old name for the entry or 2 others - when typing the number or when I was called by said number. Funny thing is this happened WHILE SIRI WAS OFF.

I managed to break out of this only by chance, at some point I was able to "Add this number to existing contact", for quite a while this option was not visible when keying in the problematic number.

Hello dragosf,

Thank you for the follow-up information. It sounds like this is only happening with one contact; is that right? If so, does the issue continue if you delete and re-recreate this specific contact?

Also, which iOS version are you using? You can check under Settings > General > About. You can use these links to update to iOS 12.1.2 if needed: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch and Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Kind regards.

nah, that is off, too. it's a crazy bug, now I have 3 suggestions for one phone number that for sure has only one entry in my contact list. from what I read, it seems that updating a contact while in roaming leads to this and, indeed, that's the case with this contact, I made a small modification (added the national code in order to be able to call it) and ever since I have "contact name or 3 others" every time i dial the number/i get called by this number

thanks, anyway
