Getting a new device doesn't necessarily work. I've had this issue across 3 previous iPads and multiple iPhones over the years when
- using Bluetooth keyboards
- using Bluetooth keyboards and pressing the down arrow on the virtual keyboard to get that big fat virtual keyboard out of the screen so you can see what you're doing only to find there is never an up arrow to bring it back
- using multiple different virtual keyboards like: Copied (for Copy/Paste clipboard), Swiftkey (for swiping) and Transkey (for Spanish)
Now I have my 4th iPad, a new Pro with Face ID. I do not have a Bluetooth keyboard attached, I am using Apple's Smart Keyboard and am experiencing the same exact thing. I can't get my virtual keyboard back to save my life, except to physically remove the Smart Keyboard from the iPad thereby completely defeating the purpose of having multiple keyboards serving differing needs. If I need a little help conversing back and forth in Spanish, I can't do that on my iPad now unless I detach the Smart Keyboard. If I want to use the copy/paste feature of another keyboard I can't do that unless I detach the Smart Keyboard, and so on.
THIS IS MADDENING. THIS IS A SOFTWARE ISSUE that nobody at Apple is addressing.
Doing a search for these related types of virtual keyboard issues shows hundreds of unhappy people dating back years across many forums. Apple needs to fix this. I spend THOUSANDS of dollars on their products only to be frustrated to no end because the keyboard disappears across all of those same products. If there's one thing I know that's going to happen when I get a new iOS device, it is that I will have issues with the virtual keyboard. I put up with it when using Bluetooth keyboards because I had a Logitech keyboard that could pair with 3 different devices and pressing 1 button quickly unpaired from my current device so my virtual keyboard came back quickly. But this latest iPad Pro with Smart Keyboard? NOT SO ****** SMART.
"Oh, we've never heard of that before" is a lie. Apple is becoming the new Microsoft.
