auto light sensor iphone xs max 256 model A1921

doesnt work auto light sensor,when it's on,it is only about 45% permanently,never changes in the dark or sun,hard reset dosent help,ios 12.1.2, manual is ok. any thoughts?

If there is nothing (cover and/or screen protector) that can obstruct / interfere with ambient light sensor, and if you set the autobrightness ON (Settings>General>Accessibility>Display Accomodations... it should work.

Shouldn't be this case, since your iPhone is brand new, have it inspected at your most convenient Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider: https://locate.apple.com/findlocations

i have iphone x too, my old one device, and true tone doesnt work after i restore from the copy ,i just check it..but auto light sensor work properly...its strange,the iphone xs max i restored from the copy of my old one iphone x.

If you followed the steps I provided in my previous reply to no avail, if you already tried a restart, it could be a hardware glitch.

As already suggested, have your device checked.

it's brand new, light sensor doesnt regulate brightness at all...i tried manual calibration , it doesnt help, should it be software or hardware problem?

yes, in my country i cant check my device cause we dont have any authorizid service provider
