I've recently bought this Toshiba Canvio Basics 2 TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive. Upon connecting it with my MacBook (with a USB-C to USB Adapter), the capacity shown is 500 GB. I've tried reformatting, but nothing changes. Could anyone provide some help?
I'm on a MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018), using High Sierra 10.13.6.

Sounds suspiciously like the case it's in doesn't understand Advanced Format & requires some OS features to do that...

Thank you for taking the time to answer; I actually have just been able to solve the issue.
I should have formatted the Device and not the Volume, like I'd done at the beginning. Everything became clear once I clicked "Show all Devices" from the View menu on the top left.
