No Network | Carrier showing ‘vf nl 35.0’ after update to 12.1.2

I updated my iPhone two days ago, and I have had no network since then. I checked the carrier in settings and it is currently showing vf no 35.0. The phone was bought in the US but i’m in UK at the moment. My UK sim is no longer recognised, and I used the sim on another phone.

Well, I don't think it should be trying to connect to another network other than the one for the sim, but that is what is actually happening. I checked my Mobile Data Network and it has a vodafone configuration. Why? My carrier is Lycamobile UK and the sim is currently on the iPhone. I have tried troubleshooting with all those steps and none has resolved the issue.

Hi AbbaTKA,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. I understand you may be having an issue with a cellular network.

To clarify, the "vf" you see is likely referring to VodaFone, so it sounds like your device is connected or attempting to connect to that network. Do you see the same "vf" at the top of your iPhone display, or are you seeing a "No Service" message? If you are, I recommend giving the troubleshooting steps here a try: If you see No Service or Searching on your iPhone or iPad.

On the other hand, if you're seeing an alert that your SIM isn't recognized, the steps in this link are a great place to start: If you get an alert about the SIM card in your iPhone.

I hope these links are helpful.

Have a great day.

Hello AbbaTKA,

Thanks for the follow-up. If your device is roaming, or otherwise unable to connect to your carrier, it may be attempting to connect to the nearest available network: About cellular data roaming options for your iPhone and iPad.

Can you confirm if you see "No Service" on your device, or any specific SIM errors or alerts? If you do, what do they say?

You mentioned the steps posted above didn't clear this up. Check out the information here to see if it may match what you see on your iPhone: If you see a Cellular Update Failed or Apple Pay Not Available alert after iOS update or restart.

Kind regards.

Hi there AbbaTKA,

We appreciate the additional information. Do you know if the iPhone was unlocked prior to switching from the US to UK SIM card? Also, one important step mentioned in the "No Service" article above is to get in contact with your carrier to make sure there are no activation issues or otherwise on their end; were you able to do that? If you have, I recommend getting in touch with Apple as your next step, and you can do so with this link: Contact Apple Support.

Have a great day.
