Mac Mini beachballs, com.apple.DumpGPURestart

My Mac Mini is beachballing. When it starts beachballing all the apps in the GUI become unresponsive, although the mouse cursor works, as does ssh. Prior to beachballing it seems to be fine and performance is normal. After beachballing I have to turn it off and on. Around the time it starts beachballing I start seeing the following messages in /var/log/system.log:

com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (com.apple.DumpGPURestart): Service only ran for 1 seconds. Pushing respawn out by 9 seconds.

Hardware is a Mac mini (Late 2012) and OS version is 10.14.2.

MacBook Air (2018 or later)
