Audio waveform edits not updating during playback

Hey all,

I'm a bit of a newbie in FCPX (coming from years of Premiere). Is there any way to have audio waveforms update in real time during playback?

FCPX has all of these great tools to edit in real time during playback, but editing an interview takes forever because I have to pause playback every time to see the audio waveforms update. Is there an option that I need to change to make the audio waveforms update during playback?

(This happens if I make a blade cut or if I zoom in and out.)

Should be depending on what you’re display settings you’re using in the timeline. There’s no simple answer, no switch to make it perform better. If you have wide lanes with lots of channels to process it’s going to be harder. The simpler you can make the timeline display the better the performance should be.

I'm editing a C200+5DIV Multicam Clip in a Project on a 2018 MBP with Radeon 560 Graphics. Is this not powerful enough to "update" waveforms for a basic blade cut during playback?

I don't know why it's doing that. I don't see that behavior on a multicam clip. Maybe something in the specs of the media or the project that's doing this. The waveform is rebuilt for me instantly during playback using either the blade tool or Cmd-B.

Depends entirely on the media, the timeline display option you're using, and your system, particularly the speed and amount of graphics capabilities.
