Aperture cannot read Canon R raw file

I have updated MacOS to 10.14.2, but Canon R raw file still shows up as unsupported file format in Aperture.

According to this article dated 12/17/18, the latest MacOS Mojave supports Canon R.

I tried export one of the raw files to desktop and was able to open it in Preview

I also tried open my library through iPhoto. Unlike in Aperture, where I got a black screen, I can view the raw files in iPhoto, but cannot edit it.

Not sure what's going on. Any idea why?

Aperture is no longer supported as has been mentioned.

You can download Adobes DNG Converter, it will convert your Canons RAW files to the dng format which then can be imported to Aperture, it is a free app.
