Updating iCloud settings on new phone?

I got the new iPhone XS Max today at Verizon. They sent me home with my new and old phone and told me to connect to WiFi and my phone would walk me through the process. Well it said it successfully downloaded my backup and it’s been stuck on the “updating iCloud settings...” screen and spinning for almost 40 mins now! Is this right? I can’t set the stupid phone down though because it tries to lock about every 30 seconds and then rings on the “hello” screen until I unlock it. HELP!

Hello BrittAP.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

If I'm understanding correctly, the restore from back up process for your new iPhone is taking a long time. I will be glad to assist.

Please see the information below regarding restoring a backup, from our article: If iCloud Backup couldn’t be completed or you can’t restore

If the restore process takes a long time to finish

Stay connected to a reliable Wi-Fi network and a functional power source until the process finishes. The time it takes to restore from a backup depends on the size of your backup and the speed of your Wi-Fi network.

Cheers.
