How do I make sound play through both wireless earbuds at the same time?

Hi,

I just got a pair of third-party Bluetooth earbuds and am having a problem playing audio through BOTH of them at the same time with my iPhone.

They are branded as "Revel True Wireless Earbuds" made in China and distributed by AscapeAudio. Neither company has a support forum.

I have an iPhone X and am using iOS 12.1.2.

When I attempt to pair them, I can see two (2) devices labeled “IP010-M” in the list of "Other Devices". When I pair the first one one the top of the list, my phone pairs with the right earbud and I can play audio through it, but when I pair the second earbud, the sound switches to the left ear and I don’t hear any sound playing through the right ear anymore. Both devices show up as paired and "Connected". I checked my Accessibility settings and see that the sound is balanced in the middle between the two channels. Switching the sound to “MONO” has no effect.

If I “Disconnect” the left earbud, the sound switches back to the right earbud.

It seems that the iPhone cannot play sound through both earbuds at the same time even when both earbuds say “Connected”. What am I doing wrong?

Has anyone had this problem and what did you do to fix it?

I did a little more research and found out that I had to pair the right earbud with the left one. After that, just the left earbud showed up on my phone when I tried to connect. When I did this, I could hear stereo sound playing through both earbuds.

To do this, I had to turn off the Bluetooth receiver on my phone first. Then I held down both buttons on my earbuds for 15 seconds to reset them. (Other earbuds by different manuacturers do this in different ways. You'll have to find out how to reset your earbuds if you are having this problem.) When I turned both of them back on, the right one automatically paired with the left one after about 10 seconds. I could tell because they both started blinking their LEDs rapidly and then the right one stopped and started to blink slowly: about once every 5 seconds.

After I paired the one earbud, I didn't have trouble connecting again.

I hope this helpds someone else.

It's too bad that Bluetooth doesn't allow you to connect with multiple speakers.

Most likely it's a issue with the earbuds themselves. Every BT headphones or earbuds it's a stereo connection. You don't need to individually connect either L or R. See if you can borrow a pair of BT from someone and confirm. But my money is on the headphones. There are name brand earbuds on Amazon. I recently purchased a pair of Panasonic BT earbuds for 25 dollars or so. They work great! Do a quick search on the Amazon site.

Even if Bluetooth on the iPhone did allow connection to multiple devices (Mac computers do), the sound would not be perfectly in sync, because the earphones would have slightly different propagation times. This was what held up the release of AirPods, because Apple was doing just what you want, and they had great difficulty getting the two into sync. It require AirPod-specific software in the phone. The way your earphones work is a much better approach. With a Mac this feature is used mostly for speakers in different rooms, where perfect synchronization is not as important.
