Where is my ipad’s Sidebar??

My sidebar (access to screen rotation lock, internet connection, brightness setting, etc) on my ipad 6th gen disappeared after this last update. What’s up with that? I don’t like the new multitasking thing that seems to be replacing it. Is there any way to get those controls back? I know I can access some of them in my settings but I can’t find screen rotation and I’d much rather have easy access to them when I need them instead of searching through settings trying to find where the buttons are.

Many things have changed in iOS 12.

You might want to download the new iPad Users Guide for iOS 12 to famlairise yourself with how iOS 12 works.

With the new iOS 12, you make the Control Panel visible by swiping down from the top right corner of the iPad's screen, now.

Also, if you want to access the control panel from within an app, there is a toggle button to toggle ON, in the Settings app, to allow the Control Panel to appear within an active app

The way you bring up the Dock now works a little differently too, in iOS 12, also.

You do a slower short swipe up, then pause when you see the Dock then take your finger off of the screen.

In addition, to bring up the App Switcher, now, you swipe up to the center of the screen, hold for a second, or two, then lift your finger off of the screen.

Lots of new features and things to discover iOS 12.

New iOS 11/12 UI gestures are new to iPad users, but not to iPhone X and later users who had these UI gesture controls since iOS 11 and the slow removal of the old iOS hardware Home button.

Apple is standardising the iOS UI experience across ALL iDevices in anticipation of Apple creating new iDevices that will no longer have the old Home button, any longer.
