No pencil symbol on the Notes app of my iPad pro

I tried using my Apple Pencil on the Notes app of my brand new iPad Pro 10.5 but there is no pencil symbol visible. The pencil works perfectly well with Notability and Pages on the new iPad. What can I do to obtain the pencil symbol?

My iPad Pro does not give me the squiggly line to use the pencil. When trying to use notes with the Apple Pencil, notes does not give me the squiggly line option to use the pencil.

limited funcionality pencil 1 with ipad 8 gen I got IPad 8 gen. and pencil 1 gen. I can’t use the pencil in Notes. iOS is updated to v.14.4.2. The notes app doesn’t have the handwriting function for some reason. Pen is connected and is working, handwriting function works with Pages.

Did you try creating a note, first, in the iOS Notes app?
