Assigning a static IP to my ring doorbell

I have an AirPort TC, EXP and EXT. We decided to add a Ring doorbell and camera to our network. For some reason, during the WiFi setup on the camera, it connected to the EXT in our basement (furthest from the camera), causing connectivity issues on the outside corner of the house. The EXP is in closer proximity and should allow for connectivity. To do so, I would like to assign static IP addresses to these devices to ensure they are connecting to the right AirPort device. Can anyone help me with steps to do so?

Thanks for the info.

You are confirming what what we already suspected when we checked the online setup guide for the doorbell. Namely.....that the doorbell can choose which wireless network to connect to.....but the doorbell cannot really choose which specific AirPort to connect to. All AirPorts are part of the same network, so Static IPs are not going to help with your issue.

What happens if you.......

Temporarily power off the EXT in the basement

Reset the doorbell back to its default settings and then set it up again (so that it must connect to either the TC or EXP)

Check to verify that the doorbell is now working with either the TC or EXP

Wait a few more minutes, then power up the EXT in the basement

Does the doorbell switch connections and now connect to the EXT in the basement?......or......does the doorbell stay connected to the TC or EXP when the EXT in the basement is back up and running?

Sorry, confused.

Are you saying that the setup for the doorbell allows you chose a specific device by it's IP address? Or, does the doorbell setup simply allow you to connect to the wireless network in general by selecting the network and entering the password.

In other words, if the doorbell setup does not provide you with the ability to choose which device to which the doorbell will connect by a specific IP address, then setting up Static IP addresses on the AirPorts is not going to help you.

(I checked an online guide for the doorbell setup and can find no settings or options that would allow the doorbell to connect to a specific device by using an IP address)

If the doorbell will allow you to choose a specific device using its IP address, then the only Static IP address that you will need to set up would for the AirPort that you want the doorbell to connect with. No need to set up Static IPs on the other AirPorts.

Airport TC is easy enough to assign a static IP.. open the airport utility and click the icon of the TC.. click edit in the summary box.. and go to the internet tab.. change DHCP to Static.. and it should drag across all the current values.. assuming the TC is in bridge mode.. if it is in router mode it is already static.

I have no idea what EXP and EXT are.. let alone how to assign IP to them .. are they dhcp from an airport router.. if so you can use DHCP reservation to stop the IP changing.. and hence making it static.

Hi Bob! When setting up the camera, it allows you to choose a network, which all three AirPorts are part of. But, for some reason, I see the camera is actually connecting to the AirPort device furthest from its intended location on the house. I wondered if assigning a static IP to the closest AirPort device would help with a better WiFi connection. This level of network troubleshooting isn’t my strong area. :)
