Voicemail notification disappeared

My voicemail notification - the little red circle that tells me I have a waiting voicemail - no longer shows up on my phone. What happened and how can I get it back?

Try Settings > Notifications > Phone > turn badges on.

No voicemail notification for iphone 6 Since the last update (iOS 12.1.2) I have not received any voicemail notifications. When I click the voicemail icon, I get the "call voicemail" button. How can I restore my voicemail notifications? Several important appointments have been missed. Please help! Thank you.
