microphone not working after IOS 12.1.2 update iphone 7 plus

y phone was working just fine until i updated my phone to IOS 12.1.2. since then my microphone has stopped working. i cant hear anything during calls, and people cant hear me. i cant facetime and record a voice memo/use voice for anything. apparently brought it to apple centre and was informed it could be a hardware problem?? how can something working just fine suddenly decide to fall apart after an upgrade? and as i looked thru the net, i found many people are actually facing the same problem.

the best thing is, the apple centre charged me RM100 just to diagnose the problem. my phone is now stuck there, and im waiting for a call from them to tell me how much i need to pay more to fix this 'hardware' problem.

im frustrated with apple. i feel cheated. after being a loyal customer for so many year, owning imac, macbook air, multiple iphones, ipad and ipad pro.... i think its time to move on to something else. im almost certain the update caused all this problems. Apple should take the responsibility and sort it out for customers.not just charge more or ask to buy a new phone everytime something goes wrong.

This was exactly what happened to me. The only way to use phone is with Bluetooth device. I called apple support and went thru the process. They figured out that it was there update that did this. They sent me to apple store and I was given a new phone. It’s a new 7. It works perfect. I wasn’t charged anything. They took good care of me. The lady with apple support was nice and made sure I was taken care of. They will give you a replacement.

I don't think a software update can do a hardware issue.

I can see 2 things you can do now: (1) try a complete reset of the phone (backing all the data before) and set it up as a new phone. Try to see if this way (so not restoring the phone and all data) fixes it. Or (2) wait another couple of weeks for the new iOS update and see if with the new update the situation changes.

Also did you ever replace any hardware parts of the phone in a non official service/store?

no changes of parts whatsoever. as i searched online there have been a lot of people having similar issue. i read somewhere the new IOS does a stress test? for the phone components during installation and that may cause the problem. but im not sure about this. it may just be a software issue. all i know is that prior to update y phone was doing just fine. after upgrade and my phone went bonkers. i dont think everything can suddenly malfunction just like that. i didnt drop the phone/water damage or anything. perfect to zero after update. doesnt make sense..

anyway i already sent it to apple centre, they have charged me for diagnostics..now im waiting for what they are gonna charge me summore or advise me to change a new phone instead.

so frustrated that this is happening when the phone is just shy of 2 years old.

I'm in the same boat as you guys - Took my phone in and even spoke to customer service to no avail.

The "genius" at the apple store I took it into said "yeah we know its a common issue on very few iphone 7s and its a problem on the logic board" and continued to quote me on $319 for a new one... Why pay money for a phone that has the possibility of doing the same crap again?

Very frustrating when something out of your control happens and they expect you to fork over more money than the already 700+ I did when I got this phone.

Needless to say if by Feb-Mar Apple can't get their stuff together I will be transferring over to the S10.

My microphone stopped working with last update 12.1.4. I can only use phone with a blue tooth device. I’m seeing this has happened with lots people. This is very dishonest on Apples part. They need to put out a update to fix this issue before I go get a new phone that want be a Apple. I will start looking at new devices if this issue isn’t fixed. I can go get a new phone but I want this one fixed with a update. It’s a hassle going to the Apple store. If someone has a fix without a new update please let me know and I will do the same as I keep looking at all the people affected by this 12.1.4 update. Thank you

So did the update, now having the same issues as everyone here microphone won’t work, spoken with apple and said it’s a hardware issue, only got my phone just before Christmas, the place I got my phone say it’s software issues and they can’t help me as it’s not covered via warranty it’s an absolute joke, not a had a phone for 2 months because of a robbery at work, my work have finally replaced my property and now this, still with out a working phone, angry beyond belief, soon as I can upgrade apple can p*ss right off !! #update now a broken iPhone 😡

Same here, 2 days ago 12.1.4 update occurred and since then my iPhone 7 microphone doesn’t work. Can’t hear people and they can’t here me. FaceTime says call failed. Music apps work but not Snapchat when I try to send a video. Takes forever to turn off and on. Tried network reset that doesn’t work. Went to Apple store and they said it’s a hardware problem as well. I absolutely do not agree and am super angry they aren’t admitting their update has caused problems. They told me I need to get a new phone. 😡
