I’ve just got an email from support@apple.com stating my Apple ID has been locked. My gut feeling says something is not write as the whole email is with very funny font.
how should I know if the email is real?

It's not. If an Apple ID actually gets locked or disabled, its owner will be told when they try logging into it instead of through email.
Forward it to reportphishing@apple.com as an attachment and then delete it.
