problem with Apple TV 4th generation and Amazon Fire on same Tv

I tried to connect my Apple TV 4th generation to my Sony Bravia TV. I put it on HDMI port #1 which an HDIM/ARC port. My Amazon Fire TV was connected to HDMI port #2. When changed the input to HDMI # 1 and I addressed the Apple TV it overrode the Amazon TV and came on on both ports at the same time.

I wanted both devices on the same TV because they have different apps and I also wanted to mirror the content on my iPad.

You are going into Apple TV settings - Remotes and Devices and turning off the Control TV's and Receivers function.

What exactly do you mean in "overrode"

If you are on input #1 it will show the apple TV. If you change to Input 2, it should show whatever is plugged in there.

The Apple TV if turned on, may wrestle the input selection back to input #1 however.

If you put the Apple TV to sleep, can you then move to Input #2 correctly?

Turning off "Control Tvs and Receivers" may prevent the Apple TV from automatically changing the inputs back to the one its connected to.

It's not a matter of 'incompatibility' it is simply a matter of how HDMI CEC is working on your TV. When both devices are on it looks to be creating an issue. If you don't want the Apple TV to turn on your TV or switch ports then you can turn it off, as advised above. You don't need to reinstall the Apple TV, you just need to go into the settings
