Apple id sign in not working on my macbook 5,1 running Snow Leopard

I have two-factor authentication turned on. I was trying to access the app store on my older Macbook 5,1 running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and when I had to resign in to get the two-factor authentication code, the sign in prompt on my MacBook told me my apple id password was incorrect. I signed out and re-entered my apple id and password on the iOS 12 on my iphone and it worked. What is causing this apple id password sign in failure on my MacBook running SnowLeopard?

Thank-you for any help!

I did get a verification code on my iMac desktop, but I couldn't get passed the re-entering password because the prompt stated that the password was wrong, but it insn't. Do I have to enter the verification code with the password in the password field.

Could it be that it's not working because my MacBook is not listed in my devices on my Apple ID page?

Thanks
