How to connect old Apple HD 30" Cinema display to new MacbookPro (with USB-C) ??

Apple's pages say: "If you're using a Mini DisplayPort cable with a Mini DisplayPort display, use a third-party USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapter. Check with its manufacturer for compatibility with your Mac and display model. This is the correct solution for the Apple LED Cinema Display."

But Apple technical support says this won't work for the older NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M

Has anyone successfully done this?

You need a USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapter

to use with a Mini DisplayPort to dual-link DVI adapter (don't forget to plug in its USB cable).

(Many USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapters don't support DVI adapters. The one I linked says it does support them.)

Plug the display's USB cable into the dual-link adapter, and the adapter's USB cable into the computer via a USB-A to USB-C adapter.
