Older AppleTV Adding Apps

How do I add the new Specturm app to my Gen3 AppleTV? Why isnt there an app store on the older appletvs?

You cannot. A 3rd gen Apple Tv does not use Apps. It gets server pushed channels. There is no place for apps to store on a 3rd gen Apple TV, and the older software simply is not capable of running the complex Apps developed for newer Apple TVs.

The developers would need to submit their channels to Apple for inclusion in the server push, like Amazon did last year with their Prime Video channel. Very few developers are still doing this. You can try contacting the developers of the Apps and see if they have any inclination to do this.

There is no other way to add content providers to older Apple TVs.

I have 2 atv4s.....just nothing wrong with this older one except this. I’m trying to use it on an outside tv and really want the new spectrum app so I don’t need a cable box outside. I get the gaming aspect and the old atv not having enough horsepower but should be able to add a simple streaming app to this hardware.

Thanks guys for responding. I hear what you are saying....but I just don't like it, ha! Guess I'll put a roku out there and hope they add it one day. They just go on ATV, so maybe they will get it into the server push one day.

different TV os software. you could try to update the firmware or software and sometimes there are Apps added but not the App you describe. Buy an ATV4 to be able to acquire Apps as you wish.
