safari is not keeping a tab for a website in be menu bar when I select another website to open

on my iMac in safari every time I select another website it replaces the previous site. only one window is available in stead of a new tab for each site.

Yes , that works. But when I click on another site it open the new site in the same tab. Like the new site overwrites the previous site. Wait.... that’s the way it’s supposed to do. I’m an idiot! To get multiple tabs you have to open the tab first to keep the previous tab too. I’m sorry. But you helped me realize safari is working like it’s supposed to. Thank you. (Don’t tell anyone about this).
