People can't hear me on iPhone XR

Where are the microphones located on the iPhone XR?

  1. People report that my voice is muffled. If I remove my case, people can hear me much better.
  2. I hear my own voice echo.
  3. These problems are intermittant.

Please help!

Hey!

Thanks for reaching out.

Since it is an intermittent problem, it is probably due to your cell signal dropping when you are in a call. Maybe the link below could also help you with your problem!

Try this:

Go to Settings -> General -> Accessibility and scroll down to Hearing and shut off “Phone Noise Reduction.”

If that helps, your case may be interfering with one or more of your mics.

If it does nothing, you may just need to make an appointment to have your phone checked at your local Apple Store.

I checked the location of the microphones and ensured that the case didn't cover any of them. Still, I feel it is the case affecting the microphone performance. This is a standard plastic one piece case that does not directly obscure any of the three mics, but they do cut it close.
