docking station compatibility

I have a number of docking stations for my old iPod classic (2005). It has started behaving weirdly and after a number of resets, will work but not play all of my music anymore. It seems to skip sections. I don't use it that often so I'm not looking for the latest and greatest piece of kit. Just something that will work that is newer.

My first question is what can I replace it with that would still be compatible with my docking stations?

Secondly, is there some sort of adaptor I can use to play MP3 players in my docking stations? (These are various brands.)

Thanks for any help.

See Corrupt iPod Classic - Apple Community. Depending on the state of the hard drive it might be possible to get some more life out of your old device.

There are adaptors that can connect newer devices to older docks, however some only handle charging so you need to check. Stacking a device on an adaptor may also be unstable. If your dock has a mini-jack input that might be the way to go.
