LCD display panels generally work at their best at temperatures that we humans find comfortable (i.e., normal room temperature). When chilled to low temperatures, LCD display technologies become slow/sluggish - as the liquid crystals cannot realign to change their optical polarisation. At the other end of the scale, when too warm, LCDs can “black-out”.
Providing that you don’t go too far beyond the design range, any effects should be temporary. In general, as with all electronics, temperature extremes should be avoided.
Two things you should consider:
• Batteries lose considerable capacity and operating time at low temperatures; batteries can be permanently damaged at high temperatures.
• Device temperature specifications are generally wider for storage than for operation.
I recall reading that Apple's specifications for the iPad, in common with other iOS devices, can be operated safely when the temperature is between +32 and +95 degrees Fahrenheit (0 to +35 Celsius). When switched off, these devices can be safely stored at temperatures between -4 and +113 degrees Fahrenheit (-20 to +45 Celsius).
