Steam / water damage

I just got a the new XR phone for Christmas and with my old phone I used it a lot in the bathroom (taking a shower) but it always used to have steam marks on it after .I always thought it Happened simple just because the phone wasn’t waterproof, but now that my phone can withstand water, I was wondering if I could still do that ,and there would be no steam damage to the phone . Can I ???

The iPhone specs say it is safe to use in a non-condensing environment. When you run hot water, what you’re seeing is not literally steam (steam is a gas and invisible). What you’re seeing is condensation. That condensation can indeed lead to water intrusion and water damage.

Your iphone is water resistant, not water proof and water resistance is not a guarantee that no water can ever get in and damage it. That’s why water damage voids your warranty - nothing about an iPhone guarantees that if it gets wet, it won’t be damaged.

Correction - it can stay in a bathtub for a minute and it may survive. The IP67 or 68 rating is not a guarantee against water damage at any time nor under any condition. Deliberately exposing an expensive iPhone to water runs the very real risk of ruining it and have to pay out of warranty fees for a replacement, or buy a new phone as replacement.

The seals and the level of resistance also degrades over time. It also was never tested in anything but purified clean water in a lab setting. So not corrosive pool water, not soapy or oily bath water, not running water, not while moved, used or agitated, etc.
