Steinberg UR 22 Mk II external sound card crashes Macbook Pro on startup

I have a 2018 15-inch Macbook Pro running 10.13.6, when using a Yamaha Steinberg UR 22 mk II external sound card plugged into USB, the computer won't boot, it hangs on Apple logo and won't go any further. If the card is disconnected or turned off, the computer boots fine, but having to disconnect or turn the sound card off is super inconvenient. I've updated the drivers to the latest version.
