MacBook Pro 2018 - buzzing noise

Apple 2018 MacBook Pro buzzing noise - 15“ build to order 2.6 32gb ram 512ssd,

Hi all, I hope someone could help me.. My MacBook from ‘new’ has had a horrible/annoying - buzzing/scratching/clicking noise in a quiet environment- I will link a few videos (I didn’t notice it at first but when i did I left it a couple of weeks just to make sure it wasn’t; me or environment noise and it gave me chance to try a friends 2017 MacBook Pro 15, the noise is coming from behind the keyboard under various workloads, (my thoughts are Ram or SSD or coil wine) it happens when just using as a laptop or external devices are connected.

Is this normal? - The phone has to be this close or the noise cancelation gets rid of it..

Hey just want to let you know I have the EXACT same noise coming from my Thunderbolt 3 port. I have spoken to a nice Senior Adviser by the name of Jorge and he has made me rule out (so far) any software issues. We have booted the computer in safe mode, shut it down, reset the SMC and NVRAM. We ran the diagnostics test and returned no error.

I have the 2018 13" 256GB 16GB RAM model running 10.14.3 (18D109) macOS Mojave.

This happened about 2 weeks ago, I sent it in to the repair center with the noise described to them and they had me send my laptop into the repair center to get it checked out. The repair tech told me that the sound could not be replicated and they tried every test and ran diagnostics and said my computer was fine and I received it this past Tuesday (two days ago). The very same night it came back the noise happened again.

I currently have had the computer on constantly with light web browsing, email checking and word processing (Microsoft Word) and it is connected to my external display via USB-C to DisplayPort. This connection is exactly where the sound is coming from.

I have since emailed Jorge, uploaded a video of the sound to the gigafiles.apple.com link they provided, and left a voicemail on his personal extension.

Have you figured this issue out or has any Apple Tech told you what it was? I am very curious and they told me I was the only one with this issue (that they had known of). I understand there are a lot of devices out there.

Hey, unfortunately the issue never got resolved, they said all the data and videos got handed over to one of the top emgineers and he said its normal working noise (no its not - but no one can do anything now) - i will just have to live with it haha..

at first about 3 months earlier it was a issue though and they told make to take it in for repair and order the parts in store although these where not fitted as the noise could not be replicated when they had it for a week!

hopefully you have better luck!

just keep on recording the noise and build up a bank of videos and send across the most clear one in terms of audio

thanks

I was starting to go crazy thinking I am the only one with this problem! Thanks for the reply.

Have you heard of anyone else having this problem? Did you ask them about replacing your laptop? My primary concern is that once my laptop is out of warranty and not covered it will potentially cause harm. This does not sound like "normal working noise" at all. To me personally this is unacceptable for an Apple product.

No problem, I haven’t personally and a couple of friends have the macbook pro but the 2017 model..

They cant do that as i reported it after the 14 days of purchase.. and the said they can't replace as its normal working order apparently haha..

definitely unacceptable, i took it as far as i could, if the ssd or something on the motherbaord fails after warrenty I already have a case logged - so hopefully this will help

thank you
