Photos date function not working correctly

I have Photos on iCloud and it works as expected with my iPad iPhone & MacBook Pro.

Except the search function does not work properly on my MacBook Pro with Mojave.

I can search on a place but not on a date or an item: It works with month (August 2018) but not with the day (22 August 2018) which does work on my iPhone and iPad...

Same thing with items: some work only on the iPad (paper or desk for example).

I cannot understand why the same application does not work in the same manner across all the platforms.

Can you help?

In Photos on a Mac you can search for a date using a smart album.

  • File New Smart Album
  • Add a rule "Date Captured is " or Date Captured is in the Range ..."

Photos on an iPad or iPhone does not support smart albums, so we can do more searches from the search field, as a consolation price. Photos for Mac and Photos iOS are very different with respect to metadata. On the iPad we cannot assign titles, descriptions, keywords or correct the dates and the locations, so smart albums would not work.

But on my Mac I keep a smart album ready to do advanced searches.

I do not know, why the searching for categories is giving different results on both devices. But the scan is done independently on each device and does not sync with iCloud.
