Apple watch 3 cracked around the curved edge on 3 sides

The watch is only a week old and this happened I went outside for a walk in cold temperatures and then the crack started at the top and spread around the curved portion of the glass.

I have been dealing with Apple about this and sent photos of the watch and they say because there are multiple cracks and some missing glass that it has to be from an impact. Even though there is no impact point visible.

I does not make sense that the cracks only follow the curved edge. Unless this is a weak point.

They will not cover under warranty.

Very upsetting.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Any crack in glass will grow along the path of least resistance. In the case of Apple Watch that tends to be along the curved edge around the rim of the screen because that is where the profile changes.

However the crack is normally a single crack which follows a single path. Think like trying to tear a sheet of paper along two tracks at the same time, it is impossible. Your mention of multiple cracks suggests an impact or scrape has caused additional chips or other weaknesses which initiated more than one crack, probably at differently times and starting small so you didn’t notice immediately. Even a small scratch or chip can act as a focus to help a crack grow.

I had exactly the same and took mine in for "assessment" as directed by Apple support. They said the same thing about pieces of glass missing on the edge. I have never dropped the watch or bashed it and where the pieces are missing is right on the edge of the screen. I am looking for a contact email to write to them and complain as the phone assistance just refer you to a service agent!! I am very annoyed as this was a 50th birthday present and is now useless. I have heard of this happening multiple times so it must be a fault with the screens but they are trying to blame it on the user..

The watch is a week old and I did not hit it, drop it or scratch it.

There is no impact point visible were the splitting would occur and then why is there splitting on two sides. I saw the cracked start on the top line and then it spread and splintered along the side without any impact and then the bottom.

The worse thing I did was wear it outside for a winter walk. Should it no be able to taken outside?

Your tearing scenario is only correct if there is only one point of weakness. If there are 2 paths of least resistance then logically it will split.

Why could it not be a multiple weak points from the factory?
