Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
I usually have the Mac set to restart with reopen windows so windows and applications restart. My computer is shut down. This time I’d like to boot without anything launching. Is there a key I can hold at start up to override the setting and prevent applications and windows from reopening?

No problem. When you shutdown there's a dialog window…
uncheck "Reopen…". Plus some apps have their own startup settings.

No. You have to change your settings. Log in items etc.
Sorry, I don’t mean system prefs log in items, just apps that happened to be open when the machine shuts down.
So if this is checked on there is no way to override this short of rebooting and then unchecking it and rebooting again.
